ABSTRACT:
A process for purifying waste water by electrolysis in two steps is disclosed. In the first step, the electrolysis is effected by dipping an iron anode and a carbon cathode in the waste water having a pH of about 7 to be purified until a pH of 11 is reached. The water is filtered to remove the precipitate which has formed. In the second step, the pH of the filtrate having a pH of 11 is adjusted to about 4 by electrolysis with a carbon anode and an aluminum cathode or by adding thereto an acid and then the electrolysis of the filtrate is effected by dipping therein an iron anode and an aluminum or aluminum base alloy cathode. This process may be illustrated by the following diagram: ##STR1##
