ABSTRACT:
Hydrogen is produced from a hydrocarbon by contacting the hydrocarbon with fine particles of a carbonaceous material having an external surface area of at least 1 m.sup.2 /g at a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze the hydrocarbon.
