ABSTRACT:
A two-stage process for producing a copolymer, comprising emulsion polymerizing (a) a 2-80% by weight of a conjugated diene compound, (b) 0.1-10% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (c) 10-97.9% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated compound other than the components (a) and (b) in the presence of (d) and .alpha.-methylstyrene dimer, wherein in the first stage, 10-50% by weight of the total amount of the components (a), (b) and (c) are added and polymerized at 70.degree.-80.degree. C. for 2-6 hours after the addition of the monomer, and after said first stage, 50-90% by weight of the total amount of the components (a), (b) and (c) are continuously fed and polymerized in a second stage.
