ABSTRACT:
A process for producing chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen, which comprises using at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of a supported ruthenium chloride catalyst, a catalyst obtained by supporting at least one ruthenium compound, a ruthenium oxide catalyst obtained by oxidizing a catalyst which is prepared by supporting at least one ruthenium compound, and a catalyst obtained by calcining ruthenium chloride supported on a carrier at the temperature of not less than 280.degree. C.
