ABSTRACT:
A process for producing an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carbonyl compound represented by formula (II): ##STR1## which includes subjecting an alkenyl ester represented by formula (I): ##STR2## and an allyl type carbonic ester to catalytic reaction in the presence of a platinum group metal compound catalyst without the necessity of an organotin alkoxide. The subsequent addition of a phosphorus-containing compound, followed by heating, results in the decomposition and removal of unreacted allyl type carbonic ester and reaction by-product.
