ABSTRACT:
Single crystal mullite fibrils having a diameter of about 3-100 nanometers, a length of about 0.05-2 microns and a length-to-diameter ratio of about 5-100:1 prepared by heating an intimate mixture of alumina and silica sources in the presence of an alkali metal salt flux to a temperature of about 750.degree.-1200.degree. C.
