ABSTRACT:
A process for preparing 3-thienyl malonic acid, comprising treatment of a 3-thienyl cyanoacetate of formula (III): ##STR1## where R.sup.1 represents an aryl or alkyl group, with at least a molar excess of an alkali metal hydroxide.
