ABSTRACT:
##STR1## (In the formulae, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, each represents hydrogen or lower alkyl.) The present invention relates to a process for producing 1,5-pentanediol derivatives represented by general formula (II) which comprises reacting 2-butenal derivatives represented by general formula (I) with formaldehyde, and hydrogenating the obtained mixture of reaction products.
