A process for processing exposed photographic silver halide materials at least comprising the stages color development, stopping, bleaching and fixing using a bleaching bath with hydrogen peroxide as the active substance, characterized in that the stop bath contains as a buffer agent at least one carboxylic acid of the formulae I to VIII ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 mutually independently mean hydrogen, --OH, --COOM, --SO.sub.3 M, --PO(OM).sub.2, an optionally substituted alkyl residue, an optionally substituted aryl residue, an optionally substituted amino residue or a heterocyclic residue and
