ABSTRACT:
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is long-chain alkyl, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each lower alkyl and X.crclbar. is an anion, are prepared by quaternizing amines of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 N with ethylene oxide in the presence of acid. This gives the quaternary compounds in virtually quantitative yield. The compounds are particularly suitable for use in hair cosmetics.
