ABSTRACT:
The invention is a method for preparing hydrogen sulfide by reacting a gas mixture containing carbon monoxide with sulfur to provide a gas mixture containing carbonyl sulfide and reacting the gas mixture containing carbonyl sulfide with water in the vapor phase to provide a gas mixture containing hydrogen sulfide. The process is preferrably operated continuously. The water can be present in the step in which the carbon monoxide is reacted with the sulfur.
