ABSTRACT:
An improved and simplified process for preparing terephthalic acid monoamide derivatives of the formula ##STR1## in which R denotes hydrogen, an alkaline earth metal or alkali metal cation or methyl, R.sub.1 denotes C.sub.8 -C.sub.30 -alkyl, preferably C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -alkyl, and R.sub.2 denotes C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 -alkyl or, preferably hydrogen, in which dimethyl terephthalate is reacted with an amine of the formula
