ABSTRACT:
A process of isomerizing a chlorofluorocarbon of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is chlorine or fluorine to the compound of the formula: ##STR2## The process comprises contacting the chlorofluorocarbon with an activated aluminum trichloride catalyst. The catalyst is prepared by contacting the chlorofluorocarbon with anhydrous aluminum trichloride in the presence of a metal. The metal is selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, tungsten and combinations thereof.
