ABSTRACT:
A process for the preparation of monochlorinated and dichlorinated bis-(perhalomethyl)-benzenes of the formula (I) by reacting bis-(perhalomethyl)-benzenes of the formula (II) with elementary chlorine in chlorosulfonic acid as the reaction medium, at a temperature of, preferably, 0.degree. to 10.degree. C. The present invention makes it possible to obtain pure compounds of the formula (I), in high yields, in a single process step.
