ABSTRACT:
Described is a process for preparing Amikacin wherein 1-N-(L(-).gamma.-benzyloxycarbonylamino-.alpha.-hyroxybutyryl)-3,6'-di-N-b enzyloxycarbonyl-Kanamycin A suspended in a suitable solvent, is treated with an aqueous solution of formic acid in the presence of a catalyst; the reaction mixture is charged on a ion exchange resin column to yield the desired product. Among the side-products Kanamycin A is obtained which is per se useful.
