ABSTRACT:
A novel process for the manufacture of .alpha.-ketocarboxylic acids which comprises the reaction of oximinohalide with cyanide ion to form oximinonitrile which is reacted with hydroxide ion to form oximinoacid and hydrolysis thereof to the .alpha.-ketoacid.
