ABSTRACT:
A solution of alkylbenzoylbenzoic acid in a solvent that resists sulfonation is contacted at or below about 95.degree. C with oleum to effect ring closure. The product alkylanthraquinone is obtained in solution from which the alkylanthraquinone can be isolated.
