Provided is a process for preparing an aldehyde or aldehydes represented by the following formula (III), characterized in that a diaryliodonium salt represented by the following formula (I) is reacted with an unsaturated alcohol represented by the following formula (II) in a solvent containing a base in the presence of a transition metal catalyst at a temperature in the range of room temperature to 100.degree. C.:
