A process for preparing a hydrosilylation catalyst by dissolving chloroplatinic acid H.sub.2 PtCl.sub.6 in a cyclic ether or cyclic ester containing at least 3 carbon atoms, and maintaining the resulting solution at a temperature of at least 30.degree. C.
