ABSTRACT:
A process for preparing a hydrophilic water insoluble acrylic polymer by heating a composition consisting essentially of a compound having the generic formula ##STR1## wherein --R.sub.1 is --H, --CH.sub.3, or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3 and --R.sub.2 is a lower alkyl radical containing at least one hydroxy group, said composition being essentially free from polymerization catalysts and initiators; the polymer resulting from the process and articles including contact lens blanks and contact lenses manufactured from the polymer.
