ABSTRACT:
A catalyst for polymerizing an aromatic vinyl compound, having the formula (I): ##STR1## where M is an element of Group IVa; X.sup.1 is a halogen; R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are independently hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sup.8 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; m is an integer of from 1 to 6; and n is an integer of from 4 to 60. The vinyl polymer produced has predominantly a syndiotactic structure.
