ABSTRACT:
A process for pressing a ceramic composite which is comprised of alpha silicon carbide whiskers and alpha alumina oxide is disclosed. The composite material is blanketed with nitrogen, heated to a temperature of from about 1,250 to about 1,450 degrees centigrade, thereafter heated to a temperature of from about 1,650 to about 1,900 degrees centigrade while pressure on the system is increased, and thereafter maintained under specified temperature and pressure conditions for from about 30 to about 90 minutes.
