ABSTRACT:
Homopolyimides and copolyimides which contain structural elements of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are halogen, nitro, aryl, aryloxy, alkyl or alkoxy, m is 0 or a number from 1 to 4, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 3 and p is 0, 1 or 2, the free carbonyl groups are bonded in the ortho-position relative to one another and R is a divalent aromatic radical which is substituted by at least one alkyl group or aralkyl group, are autophotocross-linkable. They are suitable for the production of protective films and photographic relief images.
