ABSTRACT:
Borate-containing radioactive waste waters are treated by the addition of an alkali metal hydroxide and/or ammonium hydroxide (including non-detrimentally substituted ammonium hydroxides) in an amount effective to prevent precipitation of the borates at temperatures at or near the ambient temperature range, herein meaning about 60.degree. F.-90.degree. F. The invention is ideally practiced in conjunction with the disposal of such wastes by encapsulation wherein an encapsulating binder material or monomer is polymerized in situ with the waste under exothermic reaction conditions.
