ABSTRACT:
Catalytic process for dimerizing a lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate by contacting, at about 0.degree. to about 150.degree. C., the acrylate or methacrylate with the catalyst of the formula (RCN).sub.4 PdX.sub.2 wherein R is hydrocarbyl which contains no carbon-carbon unsaturation other than aromatic unsaturation and X is an anion which is incapable of displacing RCN from the cationic moiety of the palladium complex.
