ABSTRACT:
A process is provided for decreasing the rate of corrosion of titanium by a corrosive aqueous media containing dissolved acidic moieties in contact therewith at an elevated temperature in the substantial absence of molecular oxygen which comprises introducing into said corrosive aqueous medium at least one soluble tellurium or selenium compound or mixtures thereof as corrosion inhibitor, said corrosion inhibitor being introduced in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 1.times.10.sup.-6 gram-atoms of dissolved tellurium or selenium values per gram-mole of total acidic moieties in the corrosive aqueous medium.
