ABSTRACT:
A suspension of substantially pure sodium 7-(D-.alpha.-formyloxy-.alpha.-phenylacetamido)-3-(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5- ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate in methyl alcohol containing about 2% water on treatment with a methyl alcohol solution of sodium hydroxide is converted to a crystalline suspension of sodium 7-(D-.alpha.-hydroxy-.alpha.-phenylacetamido)-3-(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl thiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate in yields of about 65 to 70%.
