ABSTRACT:
The proposed process for carbonitriding steel and cast iron articles comprises the saturation of these articles with carbon and nitrogen at a temperature of 550.degree. to 650.degree. C. in a carbonitriding medium of vaporous ammonium carbamate.
The invention finds extensive application to aircraft manufacturing, automotive industry, machine-tool manufacture and precision mechanics for surface hardening of steel and cast iron articles.
