ABSTRACT:
A glass surface is first coated with very thin layers of .gamma.-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and low molecular weight polyethylene, which may be applied separately or simultaneously. A coating of a copolymer of an .alpha.-olefin with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid is then applied to the precoated glass surface and heated to form a uniform film, which is capable of delaminating from glass and containing cullet upon impact resulting in glass breakage. This process if of special interest in coating the outer surfaces of glass containers to protect persons or property from injury or damage.
