ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to a process for altering the viscosity of organopolysiloxanes, wherein clay which has been treated with mineral acid and subsequently heated to from 250.degree. C. to 1200.degree. C. is used as catalyst. In the process, only small amounts of volatile siloxanes, in particular only small amounts of cyclic molecules, are formed.
