ABSTRACT:
A composition and method for inhibiting corrosion of iron and steel in the presence of aqueous acid, especially concentrated hydrochloric acid comprising at least 5% by weight HCl, comprising an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of an alkenylphenone having the following structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 may be unsubstituted or inertly substituted aryl of 6 to about 10 carbons, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 may be the same or different and each may be hydrogen, halogen, or inertly substituted aliphatic of about 3 to about 12 carbons, and R.sub.2 may also be alkanol, ether, or unsubstituted or inertly substituted aryl of 6 to about 10 carbons, provided that the total number of carbons in said alkenylphenone does not exceed 16, and preferably including a surfactant, and a process of using this composition.
