A microbial inhibiting composition and method is disclosed. The composition comprises an amount, effective for the intended purpose of dodecylguanidine hydrochloride and 2-(2-bromo-2-nitroethenyl) furan. The method comprises administering an amount of this combined treatment to the particular water containing system for which treatment is desired.
