A method and apparatus of combusting an acid gas (H.sub.2 S) stream and a second stream containing an organic sulfur compound which may be contaminated with ammonia, and/or hydrocarbons, either liquid or gaseous, to create SO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 S for ultimate recovery of sulfur.
