ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of propylene oxide and an alkenyl aryl, which process involves:(1) reacting an alkyl aryl hydroperoxide with propene to yield propylene oxide and an aryl alcohol; and,(2) contacting, at elevated temperature, feed containing the aryl alcohol obtained in step (1) with a heterogeneous dehydration catalyst to yield an alkenyl aryl,in which process the feed of step (2) has at most 0.30% wt of compounds having a molecular weight of at least 195.
