ABSTRACT:
A process for the preparation of aluminum trialkyl sulfonates which are useful as intermediates to alkyl sulfonate surfactants which comprises reacting a long chain trialkyl aluminum at a temperature between about 100.degree. C. and about 250.degree. C. with a sultone of structure ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2 R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen or lower alkyl and m is an integer from 1 to 2.
