Polydiorganosiloxanes of the general formulain-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?R1—(OSiR2)nOH  (I)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?are prepared by reacting hexaorganocyclotrisiloxanes of the formulain-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?(R2SiO)3  (II)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?with alcohols of the formulain-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?R1—OH  (III)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?where each R is the same or different and is a monovalent, optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical,R1is a monovalent, optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical andn is an integer of at least 3,in the presence of a carbonate salt as a catalyst.
