ABSTRACT:
A process for the preparation of aromatic polyamides comprises reacting carbon monoxide and an aromatic iodoamine characterized by having at least one iodine atom covalently bonded to an aromatic ring and at least one amino group. The process is conducted in the presence of a solvent, a catalyst and a base at a pressure greater than about 1 kg/cm.sup.2.
