ABSTRACT:
Phosphorus-containing acids and salts are prepared by heating a mixture of
(A) an acid of the formula ##STR1## where R is alkyl, with (B) an acid of the formula ##STR2## where R.sup.1 is aryl, for 3 to 10 hours at 55.degree. to 95.degree. C to form a mixture of acids (A) and (B) and an acid of the formula ##STR3## and optionally neutralizing to a salt to be used in lubricating oil.
