ABSTRACT:
Pentachloronitrobenzene having less than 0.6% hexachlorobenzene is prepared by reacting pentachlorobenzene with mixed nitration acid at a temperature in the range of 100.degree.-120.degree. C then heating the reaction mixture to an intermediate temperature to deplete excess nitric acid prior to melting and recrystallization.
