ABSTRACT:
Nitriles are produced from carboxylic acids and ammonia utilizing an intermediate nitrogenous base-carboxylic acid complex by reacting said complex with ammonia at a temperature of from about 200.degree. to about 800.degree.C. The nitrogenous base is de-complexed as the nitriles are produced, recovered and recycled.
