ABSTRACT:
A process is provided for the preparation of mandelic acid derivatives. The process comprises the steps of:(a) stereoselectively cyanating a compound of Formula (2) to yield the corresponding cyanohydrin;(b) hydrolyzing the product of step (a) to the corresponding compound of Formula (1).wherein X is a substituent.
