ABSTRACT:
There is disclosed a process for esterifying resin acids and rosins by reacting quaternary ammonium salts thereof with an alkyl or alkenyl polyhalide for about 2 to 6 hours at temperatures between about 20.degree. C. and 90.degree. C. There is also disclosed novel di-esters produced by the process and the use of the process to reduce the acid number of incompletely esterified carboxylic acid components of rosins and resin acids.
