ABSTRACT:
A penicillin sulfoxide ester is reacted with sulfuryl chloride at a temperature of from about 75.degree.C. to about 120.degree.C. to produce a novel 2-chlorosulfinyl-azetidin-4-one intermediate, which intermediate is treated with an alkaline reagent to produce a desaceetoxycephalosporin sulfoxide.
