ABSTRACT:
An aromatic dicarboxylic acid chloride, e.g., terephthaloyl chloride, is prepared by reacting chlorine with a solution of an aromatic dialdehyde in an inert solvent, e.g., carbon tetrachloride, at a temperature of about from 0.degree.C. to 125.degree.C. Essentially complete conversion of the aldehyde to the chloride is achieved under these conditions.
