ABSTRACT:
2-CHLOROALKANES ARE SELECTIVELY PREPARED FROM DETERGENT RANGE ALPHA OLEFINS I.E., OLEFINS IN THE C.sub.7 to C.sub.30 range, by reacting the alpha olefin with hydrogen chloride in the presence of a metal chloride catalyst supported on a carrier having an average pore diameter of at least 30 millimicrons (m.mu.).
