ABSTRACT:
This invention provides for a process for the preparation of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluorodichloroethane (FC-114a) by reacting CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFCl in a polar aprotic solvent with a source of fluoride ion selected from at least one alkali metal fluoride and/or at least one tetraalkylammonium fluoride and with a source of chlorine selected from at least one of CCl.sub.4, CCl.sub.3 CCl.sub.3, and CCl.sub.3 CCl.sub.2 CCl.sub.3 at a temperature from about 25.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C.
