ABSTRACT:
In a planetary gear unit120, a planetary carrier123is linked with an engine150, a sun gear121with a motor130, and a ring gear122with a motor140and an axle116. A clutch160is disposed between the planetary gear unit120and the motor140to connect and disconnect the planetary gear unit120with and from the motor140.A brake162is also provided to constrain the ring gear122in a released position of the clutch160.The state of coupling the clutch160attains the structure of a parallel hybrid vehicle. The state of releasing the clutch160and activating the brake162to constrain the ring gear122attains the structure of a series hybrid vehicle. The technique of the present invention changes over the drive mode according to the driving state of the hybrid vehicle, thus ensuring an efficient drive that takes advantage of the characteristics of the respective drive modes.
