ABSTRACT:
A power drivable chuck30includes a body72which is formed with a shank-receiving opening34having a triangular cross section. A spring104is located about a forward section78of the body72, and is captured within a chamber102between a base surface98of a sleeve76and a forward surface100of an intermediate section80of the body. A ball90is located in a passage86formed through the body72from an exterior surface96to the opening34. A pair of slots106and108are also formed in the body in communication, and aligned, with the passage86on opposite sides of the passage. The ball90is formed with a through hole112and receives a pin114therein, with opposite ends of the pin extending from the ball and into respective ones of the slots106and108. The spring104engages and normally urges the opposite ends of the pin114against the base surface98of the sleeve76normally to extend a portion90aof the ball90into the opening34for locking a shank42within the opening. The opening34is formed to receive a hexagonal shank38and triangular shanks44and52.
