ABSTRACT:
A bicycle shock absorber which is movable between compressed and uncompressed states, and comprises an elongate, resilient body defining top and bottom ends and a bore extending longitudinally therethrough. Disposed within the body is a position sensitive friction damper which itself comprises upper and lower support members disposed within respective ones of the top and bottom ends of the body. Disposed within the bore and attached to the upper support member is an elongate guide member which defines a slot extending longitudinally therewithin. Disposed within the slot is a dampening member which is slidably movable therewithin, with the slot being sized relative to the dampening member so as to provide frictional resistance to the movement thereof. Also disposed within the bore is an elongate connecting rod having a first end attached to the dampening member and a second end pivotally connected to the lower support member. The movement of the shock absorber between the compressed and uncompressed states facilitates the movement of the dampening member within the slot.
