ABSTRACT:
A portable television camera and recording device is provided which may be employed to generate, monitor and record on a single record member either or both still and motion picture information. The device is supported within a single housing which is provided with manual holding and control means permitting the housing to be pointed in a particular direction at an object or scene to be recorded. Supported within the housing at the front end thereof is a television camera or flying spot scanner, a television recorder such as a magnetic tape video recorder or a television card recorder and a visual monitor such as a cathode ray tube located to be viewable from the rear end of the housing. Manually operable controls are provided in the form of switches which may be selectively actuated or energized to perform such functions as monitoring and/or recording single frames of video information or multiple frames thereof defining a motion picture. In the single frame mode of operation, monitoring is effected before or after recording a full-frame video picture signal of a still image scanned by the television camera. In the motion picture recording mode, the image information being recorded may be optically and/or electronically monitored during or after recording. The major components of the portable unit such as the television camera, magnetic tape recorder, monitor and electronic control units, are preferably modular and capable of being removed and replaced without difficulty.
